W.I.P. a very very early picture of what will be trees…!!!
W.I.P. another try at a tree
I guess this is done…I painted myself into a corner and got too dark too quick. I like how you can see in the lower right to other trees. I also think that I was having so much fun creating negative space branches that I lost my way a bit!
This week winter finally arrived- we had about 10 ” of snow on Thursday and are expecting 12″ more today/tonight. The snow is so beautiful- painting that beauty and glow is a prime opportunity with watercolor. I am not the best at this but practice, practice! I woke up at midnight because a spider bit my face and I was itching and ended up staying up. I have been doing some ancestry research work and discovered I have an ancestor by the name of Mercy Lake. What a cool name- I wonder where this name came from? Sometimes I find that names have been passed down like Charles on my dad’s side. It can make it very confusing to figure out who is whom but lots of fun figuring it out! I was able to get into my studio a few day this past week- thank you snow storms!
W.I.P. first we did a wet on wet drop in the tree and lights as you can see at the top- then dry on dry darken the branches and leave the white- wet the back ground with clear water and wet on wet get that graded wash
W.I.P. Tree with Lights- going to paint some reflected lights on snow and figure out what to do with bottom
Done! removed the masking fluid to reveal the stars. I am for sure going to try this again! It was so fun and I am learning about holding back to reserve the white or the paper.
Learning for paint wet-on-wet
defining the trees a bit
I am wishing I saved more white- next time!
negative space painting on a few trees and putting in the sky
Trying to create a sense on space in the woods. Used Winsdor blue green shade blue on right and ultra marine on left…W.I.P…and I have NO idea what will happen in the front- I love how the salt left those marks…
I started the painting below for class and I love the idea and will create more of these in the future. The next one I do I will call Mercy Lake!
W.I.P. This started as a lesson about contrast
W.I.P. I wanted to bubbles to be warm and the rest cool
W.I.P. I like how the area around the face came out…to me it seems like the bubble changed the color of the dancer- which is what I want to do more of in future
W.I.P. added more bubbles and used Rose which I found out is not a very staining color as it lifted when I tried to glaze over it
W.I.P. I had to tone done the rose on the bubble on upper right- the paint was too thick
W.I.P. I thought that the dancer was getting too chopped up so I glazed over the circles on her right arm but did not add a second coat over the arm itself.
W.I.P.= thought I should push it some and did horizontal lines over the vertical one in back ground
I have taken this to the point where I want to start over and apply what I have learned on the next one…
And last but maybe not the least….till next week- peace out- bec
W.I.P. Another Christmas Card design
Done- got bored with this…
Here is this week’s class project using words as art- can you tell where I got my inspiration?
