Watercolor Words and Wanderings

It has been a lazy hot summer week…I painted some and watched the first two seasons of a TV series called The Killing. The series is a look into what happens to the folks who know and love the murder victim. It veers off on a few tangents and takes it’s sweet time making the connecting between the viewer and the young girl but once you do get to know her a bit you really want to know what happened. I think too that after the  5th or 6th time they pull the rug out from under one of the main characters it becomes a bit to predictable and frankly a bit pathetic. So I felt a bit of a hostage to wanting to know who killed this young girl and some slow moving tangents. Maybe watch it on 1.5 speed?

Here is what I have been up to- Peace Out- Until Next Week- Becky

Watercolor Words and Wanderings

I finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I think it had some creative moments and I am not sure if because I listened to the last part of it while I was driving or if was just my squirrel brain but I kept getting lost- who are we talking about and where are they??? I did like the premise and the ending was fitting. This last week I got the chance to paint a couple of days. I have also been cutting and cutting paper prepping for the plywood people… I missed a week 0f blogging and I have been working on a bunch of stuff. I am finding it hard to keep up with no internet service down here. I also read Jodi Picoult’s Novella Larger Than Life . I love her work  and this is another great short story about a person and love and elephants.

Beginning of new painting- I am liking the contrast.

Watercolor Words and Wanderings

I went to my home town this past weekend to attend a celebration of life. It was a beautiful day on the lake at Brewster Academy. We were entertained by a person trying to sail. The wind kept tipping them over and they kept righting the boat and trying to harness the wide. This I realize today is a good analogy for my painting this summer. I keep getting back to the brush even though I have not had much “success” this summer. In watercolor class this week we were instructed to bring paintings we wanted to finish and we all had many. We talked about where to take them and worked on that. As you can see I tweaked a bunch but have not yet finished. I have a couple of weeks to focus on my painting before helping set the show at The Newport Library Arts Center. I also have been working on raw material for the plywood people. On the media this week is a book called The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern I am a bit more than half way so the jury is still out but so far it is a pretty fun read about a bizarre circus.

Until Next Week- Peace- Bec

Cutting and Cutting colors and trying to get ideas for the plywood people…

Watercolor Words and Wanderings

What a great week- the weather has been unbelievable and I have been so grateful that I have not had to get up and go to work. I still need to pinch my self that this is my life. I read a book by Cheryl Strayer called Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Coast Trail while I waiting for “The Snail Book” to come in. It was a fun read about how Cheryl hiked through her troubles. I also started and finished The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey. This was a quick read and starts out really strong as the author is given a gift of a violet and a woodland snail. She was really sick with a Lyme like disease that was exacerbated by medicines. She spent hours and days watching the snail and when she finally  got well enough she did some snail research and wrote this book. I think that there are a few chapters that needed a better edit but the book was so short to begin with that it did not bother me much.

This week I painted with my teacher and the small group of us that go to her house and study. I finally-FINALLY- started the people. Trying to finish them before Friday…hmmm…not likely. The photos are really hard to see what is happening it was a dark rainy day…I will try for better pictures on Wednesday when the weather and light will be better.

Until next week- Peace Out- Bec
